Sarajevo, 29.01.2016

In the framework of the UN project “Dialog for the Future”,  the Ministry of Culture and Sport is organizing a two-day conference on “Dialogue on strengthening the youth sector of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH)” on the 1st and 2nd of February . The “dialog for the future” is a joint programme of  UNDP, UNICEF and UNESCO and supported by the civil society organization Institute for Youth Development KULT.

The conference will be attended by representatives of executive and legislative power; officers and youth officers from municipalities and cantons in FBiH as well as representatives of the Youth Council of FBiH and young individuals from all over the Federation.

Highlighting the importance of a coordinated youth policy

The conference is organized to highlight the importance of a coordinated and efficient youth policy, which shall strengthen youth participation in social, economic and scientific life in local communities.

“This conference is important to push for a more efficient implementation of the existing Law on Youth FBiH, which was adopted back in 2010, and requires that local levels of government to improve youth participation. It is important is to coordinate the work of youth officers because it will affect the cooperation of young people from different backgrounds in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and will increase the influence of young people in decision-making, “said Namik Hadžalić, coordinator of the joint project of the UN dialogue for the future in BiH.

This year shall see improvments for young people in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, announced the Institute for Youth Development KULT. “In this year FBiH should finally adopt the first strategy towards youth. We expect that many cantons and municipalities will create local strategies for youth. That is why this conference is extremely important. People who work with young people at all levels in the Federation will be able to exchange experiences, talk about their experiences but also hear examples of good practice which may be applicable in the community from which they come. All this will lead to a better implementation of the Law on Youth FBiH whose adoption is initiated by the Institute for Youth Development “- said Dijana Olovčić from the Institute for Youth Development KULT.

Pushing for the implementation of the Law on Youth

In order to improve the implementation of the Law on Youth, the conference will show examples of good practices and existing mechanisms for youth issues of different parts of the region. The ultimate goal of the conference is to encourage officers for youth and young adults from BiH for engagement with local authorities and with representatives of non-governmental youth bodies and individual activists.
